Hewlett-Packard

Richardson, TX

Brandt was awarded this MEP contract in the amount of $2,300,000 to upgrade the existing Mechanical & Electrical infrastructure serving the three 2-story connected office buildings originally constructed in 1989.

Hewlett-Packard's original infrastructure included: 1) a single feed High Voltage electrical service to each building with no emergency electrical generator, and limited local Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), 2) a non-redundant 1500 ton central plant, 3) a single source city water service with approximately 30 minutes cooling tower basin capacity, 4) a non-redundant central air handler distribution system throughout the space and 5) non-redundant Computer Room Air Conditioning units.

Brandt reworked four (4) existing services on the buildings. The new services on each building incorporated four (4) emergency generator sets furnished by the owner up to 2000kVA, with the associated genset switchgear and switchboards. The UPS upgrade included five (5) UPS units up to 1500kVA.

Brandt installed two (2) 500-ton air cooled chillers, a 25,000-gallon water tank, three fan-coil units and the necessary steel and copper piping to tie the systems together.

The new critical power source supported the previously unprotected loads. Relocating and re-feeding the loads, as well as re-working the services, required extensive planning and coordination to minimize impact to Hewlett-Packard's processes. The project involved two major shut downs of the buildings that were executed on time and without incident.

This was a very difficult and complicated 6 month project that was completed with no safety incidents.
