Children's Medical Center of Dallas

East Tower Expansion Floors 7 - 12

The East Tower Expansion added an additional six stories to an existing six-story critical-care patient tower. The beginning of the project required existing equipment be removed and relocated. Brandt was challenged with avoiding interruption of service as well as maintaining a clean, comfortable, and conscientious job environment.

The new floors are patient areas ranging in specializations including acute care, intensive care, and isolation units. A myriad of ductwork, HVAC piping, and medical gas systems are present on all floors. Brandt installed the following systems for the new expansion:

  • Chilled and Condenser Water
  • Medical Gases
  • Steam and Steam Condensate
  • Natural Gas
  • Hot Water
  • Storm Drain
  • Domestic Cold Water

Brandt was also responsible for the installation of the following new equipment:

  • Cooling Towers (650 Tons)
  • Chiller (650 Tons)
  • Air Handling Units (355,500 CFM Total)
  • Steam Boiler
  • Make Up Air Handling Unit
  • VAV System

The 24-month project tested Brandt's ability to install complicated systems while remaining sensitive to the medical nature of the occupied space directly below the expansion. This project was completed in 2003.
