Brandt was selected as the mechanical team member of this project during the schematic design phase. This allowed us to give the design team input on installation and operating cost of various system and component types. We worked closely with the consulting engineers to solve space and routing problems before the design was complete.
During the design phase, we provided intermediate cost estimates and value-engineering ideas, which kept the project design within the construction budget. Brandt's experience with acoustically sensitive projects helped the project team design a cost effective, quiet project. By working closely with the acoustical consultant in equipment placement and selections, we saved the project over $150,000 in acoustical treatments.
All major equipment was evaluated on a first cost and operating cost basis, allowing manufacturers to offer their best combination of sizes to achieve the desired performance. This information was presented to the team and purchasing decisions were made together based on total life cycle costs. Brandt had a GMP type contract. This project was completed in May 1999.
Brandt is currently providing operations and maintenance services to Prestonwood under a yearly contract. Our responsibilities include service as required, scheduling and performing preventative maintenance, assisting in budget development for maintenance and planned replacement projects.
